Kris is a cat person!

Anyone who knows me at all know that I am a "dog person". I don't like cats. I don't understand cats. To be honest, cats scare me. They have sharp claws and teeth and I don't want to be scratched or bitten. This is a picture of a cat on my bed....where he's been sleeping the last 3 nights, with ME on my bed. Melissa got a cat from the pound a few months ago. It was to be a "mouser" out here on the farm but he started his life out here living in the old house with Melissa. We tried bringing him in the house once but the two dogs went crazy. Melissa moved to her new place and the cat stayed in the old house but then it got really cold. I worried about poor Slater out in the house so we moved him into our house.....food, water, liter box. He adapted well to living in warmth and comfort. The dogs still were crazy but we kept Slater in the den. Now he pretty much has the run of the whole house. Murphy likes him and Lexi is learning to be tolerant.

Yesterday we decided it would be nice to let Slater outside not knowing how this would turn out. He took off. A few hours later Tom saw him outside with a new cat buddy. It was getting cold again last night and I wondered how we'd get the cat back in the house. I was worried about a coyote eating him too. I went outside and called for him, like I was calling for a dog. That didn't work. He finally came up to the deck when it was cold and dark. The dogs scared him away but we left the door open a little and he came back in! It was very exciting. Before I knew what was happening Slater was sitting on Tom's lap and the dogs were of the floor sleeping. Harmony in the house with 2 dogs and 1 cat. I let Slater out again this afternoon and I still wonder if he'll show up tonight. Cats aren't like dogs. Life here is pretty good for the cat so I imagine he'll come back. He doesn't scratch or bite. I like him. I never thought I'd say I like a cat. The farm is making me into a new person....a cat person! But dogs rule and cats drool....wait, no, that's not right.
